Weekly Maritime Summary 2 - 8 September 2019

The Securewest Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded four maritime related incidents and one General Security Warning during the reporting period of 2-8 September 2019.

  • 2 September 2019 - General Security Warning - Fire aboard a passenger vessel, several dead, 34 missing off the coast of Southen California.

  • 3 September 2019 - Robbery - A charter vessel was robbed in Halifax Bay, Grenada.

  • 3 September 2019 - Attack - Motor Vessel attacked by speed boat 45nm South West of Aden, Yemen.

  • 4 September 2019 - Boarding - A Motor Vessel was boarded while in Pointe Noire Anchorage, Republic of the Congo.

  • 4 September 2019 - Suspicious Approach - A Motor vessel was approached by two skiffs 45nm South South West of the Port of Bushehr, Iran.


Robbery: Theft from a vessel or from persons aboard the vessel.

Suspicious Approach: All other unexplained activity in close proximity by an unknown vessel.

Maritime AttackAttack: An incident where weapons are discharged by pirates or pirate paraphernalia such as ladder, grappling hook, make contact with the vessel.
BoardingBoarding: Unauthorized boarding of a vessel by persons not part of its complement without successfully taking control of the vessel.
WarningGeneral Security Warning: Incidents which do not fit in the other categories, but enhance the situational awareness, e.g. flag state advisories or an attack on a non- commercial vessel such as a warship
