Weekly Maritime Summary 14 - 20 October 2019

The Securewest Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded three maritime related incidents and during the reporting period of 14 October to 20 October 2019.

Maritime incident summary

  • On 14-Oct 19 – Migrant and Refugee Incident - 33 out of 35 migrants have been rescued off the western coast of Turkey.

  • On 19-Oct-19 – Robbery - An underway bulk carrier was robbed 15nm SSW of port of Singapore. During routine rounds the duty oiler was tied up, taken hostage and threatened by five robbers armed with a gun and knives. The intruders then stole ships spares and made good their escape.

  • On 20-Oct-19 - Migrant and Refugee Incident - A Border Force vessel deployed to intercept a vessel approx. 4 miles off the coast of Kent. The vessel contained 13 migrants, including children.
