Securewest Launch Personal Sea Survival Techniques Refresher Course
Under the Manila Amendments to the STCW Code, all Seafarers are required to refresh their Personal Survival Techniques certificate. As of the 1 January 2017 seafarers must have documentary evidence of either completing the training course or updating training within the last 5 years and the qualification must be renewed every five years thereafter. The course covers elementary Sea Survival Safety training for all crew. With both theoretical and practical exercises the course prepares candidates for all emergency situations, with practical training in a supervised pool with the use of life rafts and life jackets.
To summaries any seafarer who trained prior to 1st January 2012 will need to either complete the entire course or updating / refresher course (dependent on which certificate they hold) before 1st January 2017 then update every 5 years thereafter.
Following the launch of Securewest's STCW10 course (formerly STCW95), they are now offering MCA approved Personal Sea Survival Techniques Refresher courses. The 4 hour course which combines theoretical and practical exercises prepares candidates for all emergency situations, with practical training in a supervised pool with the use of life rafts and life jackets.
